How do I disable the Beagle service? PDF Print E-mail

The Beagle service (beagled) runs as a daemon and is used to index files in your home directory for fast searching.

The Beagle service logs output to ~/.beagle/Log, and has had historical problems with the logfile getting out of control.  We have had trouble reports in CS of the logfile ballooning to a size large enough to fill users' quotas, which will prevent them from writing files.  This includes the current version of Beagle running on the Mandriva 2007.1 machines in the 154 lab.

To prevent this from occurring, you should disable the Beagle service.  To do this, click on this icon in the KDE panel (usually the lower right corner of the screen:

Which will open this window:

Click on the "config" button, which will open this window:

Then click on the "Indexing" tab (below), and uncheck

  • "Start Beagle indexing service automatically" and
  • "index my home folder"

Finally, click on the "Daemon Status" tab and click the Stop button.
